The Toyota Yaris, a popular five-door sedan from Indus Motors Company (IMC), continues to be a bestseller in Pakistan since its international launch in 1999. Known for its reliability, the Yaris offers five variants in the country.
Exterior Design: The 2023 Toyota Yaris features a design aligned with the overall Toyota lineup. The grille is larger, more prominent, and horizontally slate-shaped. LED headlights with L-shaped DRLs, akin to the Toyota Corolla’s 12th generation, enhance the front profile. Non-functional vertical air curtains are added to the lower bumper, and the character line gracefully extends from the B-pillar to the front fender and door.
Interior Highlights: Entering the Yaris, the cabin welcomes occupants with an excellent design. Notably, some parts are borrowed from other models like the Toyota Raize crossover and Perodua Ativa. The driver-focused, horizontally positioned dashboard combines hard plastic with soft-touch materials in accessible areas for loaded versions.
Mileage and Performance: The Yaris boasts good city fuel efficiency, averaging 14.9 km per litre with a 1.5-liter engine and 16 km per litre with a 1.3-liter engine. The new 1.5-liter 2NR engine, paired with a manual gearbox, achieves speeds up to 190 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds. The 1.3-liter engine variant takes around 13 seconds for the same acceleration.
Engine Specifications: The top two Yaris models feature 1.5L engines, while the other four have 1.3L inline four-cylinder engines. All models share a 16-valve DOHC valve train with dual VVT-I technology. Manual models include a 5-speed manual gearbox, while automatic versions feature a sport sequential shiftmatic system and a 7-speed CVT.
Ride and Handling: The 2023 Toyota Yaris is designed for ease of driving, especially in urban environments. It exhibits agility in tight corners, making it suitable for city riders. However, its performance on highways may not be as impressive.
