PTA Announces SIM Disowning Charge for Cellular Users

Starting from January 1, 2024, Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) in Pakistan will impose a “SIM Disowning Charge” of up to Rs 200 on SIM cards with a retention period of less than six months. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced these measures in a press release, emphasizing their nationwide implementation.

Consumers are urged to voluntarily disown or return unnecessary SIM cards, without any charges, before December 31, 2023, to avoid the SIM disowning charge and promote responsible SIM usage.

The PTA reaffirms its commitment to national safety and security, ensuring uninterrupted quality services for all telecom consumers with this decision.

A one-time waiver for the SIM disowning charge will be provided in cases of illegal SIM issuance without the consumer’s knowledge or consent.
