Pakistan Relaunches PM Youth Laptop Scheme 2025: What Students Need to Know
The government has revived the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme 2025 (Phase IV), offering thousands of university students across Pakistan a chance to own a laptop. Managed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the initiative aims to give students easier access to technology, helping them with research, online learning, and academic work.
100,000 Laptops to Be Distributed This Year
The scheme officially kicked off on July 25, 2025, at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. According to HEC, 100,000 laptops will be distributed nationwide, with follow-up events scheduled at regional universities to make the process easier for students. A dedicated media campaign has also been launched to ensure eligible students don’t miss out.
Eligibility Criteria
Students applying must:
- Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, MPhil, or PhD program at an HEC-recognized public university.
- Have at least 60% marks or a 2.8 CGPA in their latest exams.
- Students from Balochistan will receive 18% of the total quota, while distance learners from institutions like the Virtual University and AIOU will receive 5%.
How to Apply
Applications can only be submitted online. Here’s the process:
- Visit the PM Youth Program portal or the HEC Student Service Portal.
- Create or update your profile.
- Fill in the application form and upload documents (CNIC/B-form, transcripts, admission proof).
- Submit before the deadline (applications were previously extended to June 1, 2025).
Merit List and Selection Process
Once applications close, HEC will publish a provisional merit list. Students will have 15 days to review their status and raise objections if needed. After verification, a final merit list will be released, and laptops will be handed out accordingly.
Why It Matters
For many students, especially those from remote or low-income areas, this initiative provides their first reliable access to a personal laptop. By targeting digital accessibility, the government hopes to strengthen academic performance, encourage innovation, and bridge the digital divide in higher education.
