President Donald Trump tussled with CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta on Wednesday, calling the reporter a “rude, terrible person” after he asked during a press conference about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
“You are a very rude person,” Trump told Acosta, who had talked over the president in an attempt to ask his question. “The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible, and the way you treat other people is horrible. You shouldn’t treat people that way.”
As Acosta attempted to ask follow-up questions about whether Trump was concerned about more indictments from Mueller, a White House staffer attempted to pull the microphone away from him. Trump — while rebuking Acosta and complaining about CNN’s negative coverage of him, a frequent target of his ire at rallies and on social media — said the Mueller investigation was a “hoax.”
“I’ll tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself, having you working for them,” Trump said to Acosta.
