Former Prime Minister Imran Khan while holding a historic international telethon on Monday 29 August 2022, achieves a record fundraising of Rs5 Billion for flood victims.
Players, artists, overseas Pakistanis, and people from all walks of life contributed to raising this historical fund in a short time of three hours. Khan himself lead the charity campaign however CM Punjab Pervaiz Elahi, CM KPK Mahmood Khan, celebrities, and some PTI leaders have also joined.
Imran Khan urged the nation and Overseas Pakistanis to donate as much as possible despite the devastating effects of recent floods. PTI chairman also said that “more dams” are needed to avoid such devastation in the future. “The sole solution to prevent the catastrophes caused by flood is to construct dams.”, he said.
The live telethon was aired by all the channels as IHC suspends PEMRA notice on 29 August and lifts the ban from broadcasting Imran Khan’s live speeches. Many overseas Pakistanis also joined the telethon and donated significant money.
Chairman Imran Khan has appointed Dr. Sania Nishtar to head the committee responsible for distributing the funds among flood victims. Chairman PTI said that despite the 18 cases and terrorism charges on me, still I will talk to the Federation and Sindh government to face this challenge together.
