IHC Initiates Contempt of Court Proceeding Against Imran Khan

عمران خان کے خلاف توہین عدالت کیس کی سماعت کے لیے اسلام آباد ہائی کورٹ کا تین رکنی بینچ تشکیل

Islamabad High Court decided to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan for threatening the Judiciary system especially additional session judge Zeba Chaudhry during his speech on 20 August, Saturday.

Supreme Court Judge Justice Yahya Afridi observed that there is sufficient material to start contempt proceedings against Former Prime Minister Imran Khan. For contempt proceeding, IHC sent a notice to Chief Justice Ameer Farooq stating that Imran Khan has delivered controversial remarks against a female additional session judge.

The decision was taken by consulting all the judges after which a contempt of court notice was sent to Khan. A large panel formed comprising Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the case on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.

On Saturday, during the protest rally in Islamabad against Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand and violence, Khan blatantly targeted DIG and IG Islamabad. He then addressed additional session judge Zeba Chaudhry and declared “we won’t spare you too”. Also, Khan speaks against the “biased” attitude of the Judiciary system. It is notable here that Judge Zeba Chaudhary had approved Shahbaz Gill’s physical remand at the request of the Islamabad police.

Along with the contempt proceedings, FIR was also filed against Imran Khan under Anti-Terror Act for threatening and terrorizing police officials and the judicial system. However, the panel of PTI lawyers gained 2-days protective bail from IHC on Monday on behalf of Imran Khan.
