On 24 August 2022, the Election Commission of Pakistan rejected the disqualification reference filed by PDM against Imran Khan with regard to Toshakhana case however the reference filed by NA speaker will be continued and heard on August 29, 2022, as per reports.
A four-member bench of ECP heard the PDM’s Toshakhana reference today against Imran Khan for allegedly hiding Toshakhana gifts while not showing them among his assets. The bench was headed by Chief Election Commission Sikandar Sultan Raja who heard the plea from treasury lawmakers.
No petitioner from PDM appeared before ECP however Barrister Gauhar was presented on the behalf of Imran Khan. Gauhar said that petition filed by National Assembly Speaker is already under process regarding the same case.
After hearing, ECP dismissed PDM’s reference in the Toshakhana case against Imran Khan declaring it ineffective. However, NA Speaker’s reference hearing, in this case, has been adjourned till August 29, 2022. Imran Khan’s counsel asked for the time of three weeks to submit an answer in Tosha Khana reference however this plea was rejected by ECP.
It is important to note that PDM had filed Imran Khan’s disqualification reference in Tosha Khana case on August 4, 2022. However, the Government wants ECP to investigate the matter and take action against Khan.
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other PTI leaders had already denied the allegation. In response to Tosha Khana controversy, Khan responded that those were his gifts so he can keep them, “my gift, my choice”, Khan said.
