August 22, 2022: Two-day physical remand of PTI senior leader Shahbaz Gill has been granted to police as per investigation requirements in a sedition case, resources stated.
At the outset of the hearing on August 22, 2022, the Islamabad court once again granted police a two-days physical remand of Shehbaz Gill after he was presented in front of district and session courts in Islamabad. Gill was arrested by Islamabad police on August 9, 2022, in a sedition case for speaking against sensitive state institutes.
Earlier today, the court had ordered to present Shehbaz Gill who had been shifted to PIMS due to health issues. Previously, Gill’s two-days remand was canceled due to his mental and physical health. However, the court has again approved his physical remand spanning over 48 hours, after examining his medical reports.
As per court orders, “48-hours physical custody subject to pre and post-medical examination” will be ended on 24 August. Gill will be presented in court again on 24, August on Wednesday. Today’s hearing was presided by Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman where Gill claimed, “Pressure is being put on me to give a statement against Imran Khan and PTI, but I have not given any statement till today. Even after today, even if my written statement comes out, it should not be considered my statement, it will be a statement taken by violence.” resources stated.
Gill further added that he has a full belief in judges and court. He said that he has been violently treated during his prison both mentally and physically. On the other hand, Islamabad police claims that Shehbaz Gill is not subjected to any violence or torture.
